Identity Statement

We advance our mission of promoting health through better nutrition, increased physical activity, and tobacco prevention and cessation; and seek to improve and maintain wellness and quality of life by serving youth, young adults and their families in Virginia.

We do this through education and advocacy, and emphasizing our strength in convening experts in the field to create public awareness and influence public policy.

We are sustainable through grant funds, corporate and private donations, and strategic partnerships.

History

Prevention Connections was incorporated in the state of Virginia in 2003 and applied for tax-exempt status as an educational and charitable organization. In late 2004, it received its status as a 501 (c)(3) organization from the Internal Revenue Service. Its Board of Directors consists of nine volunteer members who establish policies and approve the budget for the organization. The board includes three interlocking directors from the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Tobacco Settlement Foundation (VTSF). Prevention Connections was developed to implement tobacco prevention and cessation initiatives. Its scope will be inclusive of all population segments throughout Virginia.
